How to Enter

To improve your chances of becoming a Rotating Equipment Engineer in New Zealand’s Oil & Gas industry, it’s recommended to complete a relevant degree, such as a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering or a Bachelor of Engineering Technology in a similar discipline.

Typical Responsibilities

The day-to-day job responsibilities of a Rotating Equipment Engineer can include all or some of the following:

Developing, maintaining and installing rotating equipment and machinery to required specifications and guidelines
Inspecting and testing equipment and machinery
Creating specifications and manual documents for rotating equipment and machinery
Researching and planning materials and methods for building rotating equipment and machinery
Managing various projects including but not limited to installing and maintaining machinery and equipment
Estimating costs, timeframes, materials and labour for projects
Developing maintenance standards, processes and procedures for Maintenance Engineers and personnel
Training and managing Engineering personnel

Progression

After gaining several years’ experience, Rotating Equipment Engineers can progress their careers further by specialising in several different areas of Mechanical Engineering, such as Quality Assurance, Maintenance or Electrical. Alternatively, other options include moving into senior management or executive-level roles after working as a Supervisor.
