How to Enter

To increase your chances of becoming a Production Engineer in New Zealand, it’s recommended to complete either a Bachelor of Engineering Technology, specialising in Mechanical Engineering, or a Bachelor of Engineering, specialising in Mechanical or Process Engineering.

Typical Responsibilities

The typical job responsibilities of a Production Engineer can include the following:

Operating and maintaining, small-to-large Oil & Gas machinery
Identifying ways to improve machinery and processes
Ensuring production is running to schedule
Ensuring all regulatory and Health & Safety standards are adhered to
Training and managing new Engineers

Progression

Most Production Engineers can develop their careers by moving into other specialist areas of engineering, such as Mechanical, Maintenance, or Automation, or head into a Sales-based role. Alternatively, Engineers who find passion in leading others can progress onwards to management and work their way towards becoming Production or Maintenance Manager.
