How to Enter

To become a Planner/Scheduler within the Civil Infrastructure industry, most New Zealand employers expect candidates to hold a Bachelor or Master of Planning, a Bachelor or Master of Resource and Environmental Planning or a Master of Environmental Policy.

Typical Responsibilities

The typical job responsibilities of a Planner/Schedule can include any of the following:

Planning buildings, streets, car parks, recreational parks, reserves, facilities and utilities
Analysing the development of residential, environmental and commercial areas
Researching and reporting the effects of proposed developments, particularly on the environment
Collecting and analysing social, environmental and economic data
Presenting reports to Government, local councils, companies and clients

Progression

Planners/Schedulers can progress their careers by moving into more specialist or senior-level roles within the Civil Infrastructure or Planning and Surveying industries, such as specialising in Town, Urban or Recreational Planning, or even Policy Administration.
