How to Enter

A Piping Engineer has a complicated job and so many employers prefer candidates to have a relevant engineering qualification. These could include a Bachelor of Engineering, specialising in either Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, however, Chemical, Electrical or Petroleum Engineering are great alternatives.

Typical Responsibilities

The typical responsibilities of a Piping Engineer can include any of the following:

Designing piping system plans
Selecting materials to be used for constructing pipes
Designing piping support systems
Supervising pipe installations to ensure correct measures, methods and materials are used
Conducting pipe vibration analysis
Conducting thermal analysis of piping systems
Conducting piping stress tests
Writing reports on the suitability and sustainability of piping systems
Ensuring all piping systems adhere to regulatory and Health & Safety standards
Managing a team of Engineers in the field

Progression

Piping Engineers can progress their careers in several ways. One is to work their way towards Piping Designing and then eventually towards other areas of Engineering Design, such as a CAD Designer. Alternatively, they can also move into other areas of engineering, such as Mechanical or Civil.
