How to Enter

To become a Maintenance Manager in New Zealand, most employers will prefer you to have a Bachelor of Engineering or similar, and some may expect you to have a post-graduate degree, such as a Masters of Engineering. In any case, having more than five years’ experience is generally preferred.

Typical Responsibilities

The typical responsibilities of a Maintenance Manager can include some or all of the following:

• Deciding maintenance goals and timetables
• Setting and reporting budgets
• Identifying what materials, supplies, machinery and equipment are needed to meet goals
• Managing suppliers and vendors
• Evaluating maintenance processes and creating reports
• Maintaining, testing, improving and deciding when to repair or replace equipment and machinery
• Developing new processes
• Developing, training and assisting Engineers
• Meeting and liaising with clients and customers
• Overseeing maintenance safety standards and risks

Progression

Maintenance Managers may choose to take up a similar position in another industry or specialise further within Engineering Management, such as Manufacturing Technology, Quality Control or Health & Safety.

Salary Range

100K+ per annum (NZD)​
