To stand out as a qualified Electrician to most Trade & Industrial employers in New Zealand, you will need to complete an apprenticeship and obtain a National Certificate in Electrical Engineering – Electrician for Registration (Level 4) or a National Certificate in Electricity Supply – Electrician (Level 4). In addition, you will also need to be registered with the Electrical Workers Registration Board and have a current practicing licence.
An Electrician may expect to do any of the following throughout their working day:
Given time and experience, Electricians can train to become consultants at specialist construction and engineering firms later in their careers. Alternatively, they can also work their way up to management and supervise a team of trainee Electricians. Another option includes undergoing further training and passing an exam to become an Electrical Inspector.
Entry: 42K – 60K per annum (NZD)
Experienced: 60K – 70K per annum (NZD)
