To become a Site Engineer in New Zealand, it’s recommended to complete a Bachelor of Engineering or Engineering Technology qualification to gain a boost over your competition. If you’re looking to specialise as a Site Engineer, then studying the relevant qualification, such as Civil or Environmental Engineering, can also be beneficial.

Typical Responsibilities

• Planning onsite work to be done
• Supervising workers and contractors
• Organising vehicle plants, machinery and equipment
• Preparing progress reports
• Ensuring Health & Safety standards are met
• Solving problems and reducing risk of delays

Progression

Experienced Site Engineers can often choose to specialise further into specific sectors, such as Civil, Residential or Commercial Construction, or move into other areas of Engineering, such as Health & Safety, Environmental, Water Resources or Mechanical. Alternatively, with additional training, Site Engineers can also move into Project or Site Management positions.
