We are seeking skilled GIS Technicians to join leading companies across New Zealand. As a GIS Technician, you will be responsible for collecting, analysing, and managing geographic data to support mapping, planning, and decision-making processes. You will work with cutting-edge GIS software and spatial databases to create detailed maps, conduct spatial analysis, and support a variety of industries, including environmental management, urban planning, utilities, and transportation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect, analyse, and manage spatial data from various sources, including satellite imagery, GPS, and field surveys.
- Create and maintain GIS databases, ensuring accuracy and consistency of spatial information.
- Produce high-quality digital and printed maps for planning, decision-making, and reporting purposes.
- Perform spatial analysis and geoprocessing tasks to support project development and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with engineers, planners, environmental scientists, and other professionals to integrate GIS solutions into their workflows.
- Troubleshoot and resolve GIS software or data-related issues.
- Ensure compliance with data standards, policies, and best practices for GIS usage.
- Stay up to date with emerging GIS technologies and advancements to improve workflows.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Surveying, or a related field.
- Proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, MapInfo, or other spatial analysis tools.
- Experience with spatial databases and data management (e.g., SQL, PostgreSQL/PostGIS).
- Strong understanding of cartography, coordinate systems, and geospatial analysis.
- Knowledge of GPS data collection, remote sensing, and spatial data processing techniques.
- Ability to work with large datasets and integrate GIS with other software and applications.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
- Experience in scripting (Python, R) for automation and geospatial analysis is a plus.
