We are seeking skilled GIS Technicians to join leading companies across New Zealand. As a GIS Technician, you will be responsible for collecting, analysing, and managing geographic data to support mapping, planning, and decision-making processes. You will work with cutting-edge GIS software and spatial databases to create detailed maps, conduct spatial analysis, and support a variety of industries, including environmental management, urban planning, utilities, and transportation.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Collect, analyse, and manage spatial data from various sources, including satellite imagery, GPS, and field surveys.
  • Create and maintain GIS databases, ensuring accuracy and consistency of spatial information.
  • Produce high-quality digital and printed maps for planning, decision-making, and reporting purposes.
  • Perform spatial analysis and geoprocessing tasks to support project development and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with engineers, planners, environmental scientists, and other professionals to integrate GIS solutions into their workflows.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve GIS software or data-related issues.
  • Ensure compliance with data standards, policies, and best practices for GIS usage.
  • Stay up to date with emerging GIS technologies and advancements to improve workflows.


Required Skills & Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Surveying, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, MapInfo, or other spatial analysis tools.
  • Experience with spatial databases and data management (e.g., SQL, PostgreSQL/PostGIS).
  • Strong understanding of cartography, coordinate systems, and geospatial analysis.
  • Knowledge of GPS data collection, remote sensing, and spatial data processing techniques.
  • Ability to work with large datasets and integrate GIS with other software and applications.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience in scripting (Python, R) for automation and geospatial analysis is a plus.
