To take your career to new heights as a Civil Construction Manager you will need extensive experience within the Commercial, Residential or Civil Construction industries, usually a minimum of three years of relevant experience. On top of that, New Zealand construction firms are increasingly looking for candidates with one or more of the following qualifications:


  • Civil Engineering degree
  • Building qualification
  • Construction Management diploma
  • Quantity Surveying qualification


Typical Responsibilities

Typical job responsibilities for a Civil Construction Manager may include:


  • Engaging with government officials, building professionals, architects and clients
  • Concluding volume of workers, materials, and machinery needed for civil construction projects
  • Consult with Quantity Surveyors to make sure civil projects are kept within budget
  • Tracking and reporting construction costs
  • Liaising with contractors and suppliers
  • Hiring workers and apprentices
  • Ensuring Health and Safety standards are adhered to
  • Implement traffic management and environmental protection plans



Progression

Construction Managers who gain significant experience can often progress to more executive-level positions or even start their own construction companies or consultation firms.
