To become a Building Services Engineer, it’s recommended to complete a New Zealand Diploma in Engineering (NZDE), specialising in Mechanical Engineering. This qualification can take two years of full-time study to complete. Once on the job, a Building Services Engineer can work towards completing the New Zealand Diploma in Engineering Practice (NZDEP), which leads to a certification as an Engineering Technician with the Institution of Professional Engineers of NZ.

With hard work and determination, Building Services Engineers can progress towards supervisory roles with relative ease. However, these Engineers can also choose to further specialise in areas such as Air-conditioning, Heating and Ventilation, Manufacturing, Heavy Machinery and Power Generation.
Entry: 55K - 65K per annum (NZD)
Intermediate (4+ years): 80K - 100K per annum
Senior / Associate: 120K - 160K per annum
