Are you an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with a passion for custom machinery design? With a strong forward work load and recent contract secured my client are looking for a talented Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing team in East Tamaki, Auckland.
About the Role:
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a key role in taking concept drawings and equipment specifications, and transforming them into bespoke production machinery. You will utilize your 7+ years of experience in 3D CAD design and proficiency with SolidWorks, to create and refine designs for special-purpose machinery and tooling.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze and interpret project proposals and specifications to generate machinery concepts for review
- Undertake engineering design and calculations to ensure functionality and efficiency
- Obtain initial pricing and manage the delivery of proprietary items
- Prepare manufacture-ready drawings and bills of material to applicable standards
- Support the build and testing of prototypes to meet defined performance specifications
- Ensure that materials, components, production processes, quality control, and cost considerations align with design efficiency and effectiveness
- Coordinate the design phase of major projects and provide leadership to the design team
Skills & Qualifications:
- Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related trade background
- 7 years’ + experience in 3D CAD design of special purpose machinery and/or tooling
- Proficiency in SolidWorks design software
- Experience working in a commercial engineering environment
- Confident producing full working drawings within a busy setting
- Strong understanding of design calculations, material selection, and manufacturing processes
- Ability to lead teams and provide technical guidance to junior engineers
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
